Here are answers to the questions we hear most often about the Contacts screen. For full walkthroughs, follow the links to the detailed articles.
Importing and creating contacts
What file format can I import?
A CSV file. From Excel or Google Sheets, use Save as or Download and pick CSV, then import it through Add contacts > CSV import. See import contacts from a CSV file.
My columns don’t match Skipcall’s fields
In the second step of the import, map each column by hand in Choose a field. For data with no match, create a custom field with New +, or choose Do not import.
How do I avoid duplicates when importing?
Map the Last name, First name and Company columns. The import screen says these three fields are used to merge duplicates automatically, so existing contacts should be updated instead of created again.
I have duplicates after an import
For future imports, make sure all three columns are mapped. For duplicates that already exist, contact the Skipcall team through the chat.
Some contacts weren’t imported
Check your column mapping, especially Phone 1, and make sure numbers use international format (+33…). If it keeps happening, contact the Skipcall team through the chat and attach your file.
A contact has several numbers. How do I keep them all?
- When importing: map the first column to Phone 1, and Phone 2 becomes available for the next one.
- On an existing record: Edit > the + button next to the phone number.
- In manual import: Add a phone.
Where do I enter the email in manual import?
You can’t: that form has no email field. Create the contact, then open their record > Edit > Email > Save. See add a contact manually.
Can I import my contacts from HubSpot?
If HubSpot is connected to your workspace, you can create a sequence straight from a HubSpot list: Sequences > Create a sequence > HubSpot source. If HubSpot isn’t connected, Skipcall lets you know and shows a Connect HubSpot button. See connect HubSpot.
Organizing and finding contacts
How do I select all my contacts, not just the current page?
Check one row (or the header checkbox), then click Select the N contacts in the selection bar. N is the number of contacts matching your current search and filters, or your whole base if there are none.
How do I show the Job title or Country column?
Click the unlabeled icon at the end of the table header. In the Columns panel, turn on that column’s toggle. See search, filter and sort your contacts.
Where are my notes about a contact?
Contact record > Notes tab. Notes save automatically, and the ⋮ menu lets you pin or delete them. See the contact record.
How do I add contacts to an existing sequence?
Check the contacts > Add to a sequence > pick the sequence > Add to sequence.
How do I export my contacts?
The Contacts screen has no export button. There is, however, an Export to CSV button in the header of every sequence, so you can normally put the contacts you need into a sequence and export it from there. If you have the Member role and don’t see that button, an admin can normally turn it on for you in Configuration > Permissions (the Configuration button in the left menu), with Allow members to export from a sequence.
Enrichment and prospect preferences
Enrichment won’t accept my contacts
A contact needs a first name, a last name, and either a LinkedIn URL or a company name, and must be missing the data you’re looking for. Fill in those fields and try again. See enrich your contacts.
Am I charged if enrichment finds nothing?
No. Credits are only charged for successful enrichments. If a search fails, they’re refunded automatically (you’ll see an Enrichment refund line in Settings > Credits).
I can’t text a contact
If they’re grayed out with a “no SMS number” label, their record has no usable number. Add one (record > Edit) or run a phone enrichment.
A prospect asked not to be called again
Open their record > Edit > check the box saying the contact doesn’t want to receive calls > Save. For details on exactly how that box applies to your sequences and calls, contact the Skipcall team through the chat.
