Fix audio issues (microphone, sound, ringer)

The other person can't hear you, you can't hear the ringer, or an audio device alert keeps popping up? Here's how to set your microphone and audio outputs.

Updated on October 27, 2026

Most sound problems can be fixed in Audio settings, where you choose your microphone, speaker and ringer output, each with a Test button.

Where to find audio settings

There are three ways in:

  • Profile menu > Settings > Audio settings: the most complete option (click your name in the bottom-left corner);
  • the headset button in a sequence;
  • the “New audio device detected” notification, with its Use link, which appears when you plug in a headset or microphone.

Available settings

Microphone tab

  • the device in use (System default by default);
  • Input volume, adjustable with a slider;
  • the Test button.

Speaker tab

  • the output device (System default by default);
  • Speaker volume;
  • Ringer speaker: Same as speaker by default, or a different output. For example, you can have your computer speakers ring while you’re wearing a headset;
  • the Test audio output section, with its Test button.

The other person can’t hear me

  1. Go to Settings > Audio settings, Microphone tab.
  2. Make sure the right device is selected (your headset rather than the built-in mic, for example).
  3. Check the Input volume.
  4. Click Test.
  5. If you just plugged in a headset, click Use in the “New audio device detected” notification.

I can’t hear incoming calls ring

The ringer output is normally the culprit.

  1. Go to Settings > Audio settings, Speaker tab.
  2. Under Ringer speaker, pick an output you can hear, such as your computer speakers.
  3. Click Test.

I can’t hear the other person

  1. Go to Settings > Audio settings, Speaker tab.
  2. Check the output device and the Speaker volume.
  3. Click Test under Test audio output.

The “New audio device detected” notification keeps popping up

It appears every time your audio device changes: Bluetooth headset, built-in mic and so on. You have two options:

  • click Use to switch to that device;
  • or ignore it: it goes away on its own after about ten seconds.

A button in the top-right corner disappeared

While it’s on screen, the “New audio device detected” notification can hide the buttons in the top-right corner, such as Filters, Add contacts or Create a task. Wait about ten seconds or click Use, and the buttons come back.

Still having trouble?

If the sound still doesn’t work even though your microphone and outputs are set correctly, check service status at status.skipcall.io, then contact the Skipcall team through the chat. If the rep can’t make calls at all, follow the A sales rep can’t make calls checklist instead.
