Getting a Swiss virtual phone number for your business

Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich: to prospect in Switzerland, a +41 number spares the people you call an international caller ID, which is often ignored. Yet Switzerland is one of the most demanding countries on the list.

For a landline number, the registered office address must be in Switzerland, and the commercial register extract is what proves it. In practice, you need a company or branch entered in the Swiss commercial register. A company with no presence in Switzerland cannot provide this document.

On the mobile side, Swiss numbers of this type are SMS-only: they cannot be used to make calls. For cold calling, a landline number is therefore the only option.

One country, four languages

A 22 or 21 number places you in French-speaking Switzerland, a 44 or 61 in German-speaking Switzerland, a 91 in Ticino. Choose the area code of the region you are calling, and the language that goes with it.

The UID number

Swiss entities have a business identification number (UID, IDE in French), in the format CHE-123.456.789. It is requested in addition to the extract.

Outside the European Union

Switzerland is not part of the EU: it has its own number allocation rules, and registration in the commercial register is the required route.
