Getting a Dutch virtual phone number for your business

The Netherlands is one of the most open B2B markets in Europe, and one of the most comfortable with English on the phone. A 020 or 010 number places you in Amsterdam or Rotterdam in your prospects’ eyes.

For a landline number, the rule is strict: the company’s address must be within the area covered by the chosen area code. A 020 number requires an address in the Amsterdam area, proven by the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) extract or by a bill.

Mobile is not an option for calling: the Dutch mobile numbers available are 097 numbers, which the Dutch authority reserves for automated machine-to-machine communication, with no voice calls.

What you need to know

The KvK extract

The Kamer van Koophandel keeps the Dutch commercial register. Its extract (uittreksel) proves the company exists and, if it shows the address, also serves as proof of address.

Mobile numbers reserved for machines

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) assigns mobile numbers of this type from the 097 blocks, reserved for automated applications. They allow neither person-to-person calls nor voice telephony.

Choosing your city

Your address determines which area code you can have. If your Dutch office is in Utrecht, your number will start with 030, not 020.

Call prospects in the Netherlands with a local number

Skipcall assigns the local number and your teams call from the browser or the mobile app, with a number your prospects recognise. From $25/month, no commitment.
