Getting a Finnish virtual phone number for your business

Helsinki attracts tech companies and software vendors. A Finnish number is all the more useful there because Finns readily screen unknown calls from abroad.

The application is one of the shortest on the list: a trade register extract and proof of address. For a Finnish company, the extract is the kaupparekisteriote; a foreign company provides the equivalent from its own register.

The address makes the difference: it must be within the area code’s zone for a landline, and in Finland for a mobile. A PO box is not accepted in either case.

Country code and number format

Local (landline)
+358 +358, then the area code without the 0 and the number; the length varies. 9 Helsinki, 2 Turku, 3 Tampere, 8 Oulu. Example: +358 9 1234 5678.
Mobile
+358 +358 4 or +358 50, then 6 to 8 digits (04x or 050 nationally). Example: +358 45 123 4567.

What you need to know

The kaupparekisteriote

The extract from the Finnish trade register, issued by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH). It also gives the Y-tunnus, the Finnish business ID.

Two official languages

Finnish and Swedish are the official languages; English is widely used in business, especially in Helsinki.

Numbers of variable length

As in Germany, Finnish numbers are not all the same length: the area code and the subscriber number vary.
