Getting a Spanish virtual phone number for your business
Spain is a nearby market, but Spaniards rarely pick up when they see a foreign country code. A 91 or 93 number puts you in Madrid or Barcelona in your prospects’ minds.
The documents are the same for a landline and a mobile: a company registration document, its tax identification number (NIF, formerly CIF) and proof of address. Only the address changes: within the area code’s zone for a landline, anywhere in Spain for a mobile.
A new rule affects some companies: from 17 October 2026, those subject to Spanish Law 10/2025 on customer service must make their commercial calls from a number starting with 400. Check whether your business is concerned before launching a campaign.
Country code and number format
- Local (landline)
- +34 +34, then 9 digits starting with 8 or 9; the first digits indicate the province: 91 Madrid, 93 Barcelona, 96 Valencia, 95 Seville. Example: +34 91 123 45 67.
- Mobile
- +34 +34 6 or +34 7, then 8 digits. Example: +34 612 34 56 78.
What you need to know
Commercial calls: the 400 range
A resolution of 14 April 2026 (BOE-A-2026-8409) reserves 9-digit numbers starting with 400, which do not receive calls, for commercial calls. Six months after it came into force, that is from 17 October 2026, companies subject to Law 10/2025 on customer service (notably energy, telecoms, transport, finance and large companies selling to consumers) may no longer make commercial calls from any other type of number. Check whether your company is concerned.
The company’s NIF
The tax identification number (NIF, called CIF for companies until 2008) is requested and must be proven by the registration document.
Choosing your province
The first two or three digits of a landline number indicate the province. The company’s address must be in the corresponding zone.
