Getting a Austrian virtual phone number for your business

Austria is often prospected right after Germany, but with an Austrian number: a +49 number looks like a foreign call there. A 01 number places you in Vienna, a 0662 in Salzburg.

The Austrian application has one particularity: in addition to the registration extract, you need the legal representative’s ID. An identity card, a passport or an identity confirmation issued by a bank are accepted.

The address must be within the area code’s zone for a landline, and in Austria for a mobile, with proof to back it up.

Country code and number format

Mobile
+43 +43 6, then 8 to 10 digits (06xx nationally). Example: +43 664 123 4567.

What you need to know

The Firmenbuch

The Austrian company register is called the Firmenbuch. Its extract proves the company exists and, if it shows the address, also serves as proof of address.

Tightly regulated advertising calls

Section 174 of the Austrian Telecommunications Act (TKG 2021) prohibits calls for advertising purposes without the subscriber’s prior consent. The law makes no exception for businesses, and the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO) specifies that the ban also covers first contact with a prospect.

Vienna and the federal states

Vienna has the shortest area code (1). Other cities have a 3- or 4-digit area code, and the number that follows is correspondingly shorter.
