Head to head

Skipcall vs 3CX: which one to choose

Both tools place calls, but they are not billed the same way and they do not serve the same job. 3CX is a software phone system, sold by number of simultaneous calls and installable on your own infrastructure. Skipcall is a hosted service, sold per licence, that dials four lines in parallel. This page settles one question: which of the two for your team, with the calculation method on show.

Data verified on

The verdict, in three lines

The criterion that decides it is not the feature list: it is whether you want a phone system to run yourself, or a prospecting tool already run for you. On price, let us say it straight away: at equal headcount, a 3CX licence works out much cheaper per conversation than our named licences. What that amount does not cover is set out further down.

Choose 3CX if

Your need is a phone system, and someone in your organisation knows how to run it.

Voice menus, ring groups, transfers, call queues from the Pro edition, desk phones, a free choice of SIP provider, and software you install on your own server or in your own cloud account. Billing by number of simultaneous calls becomes very favourable when your staff are not all on the line at once. Skipcall does not claim to answer that need.

Choose Skipcall if

You have fewer than a hundred employees and a team that prospects.

One tool for the whole organisation: parallel dialling on four lines for the people who prospect, and a business number, inbound calls, voicemail, SMS and mobile and web apps for everyone else. Nothing to install, nothing to run. That is where Skipcall belongs.

If you are still weighing up several tools and not just these two, the page on alternatives to 3CX compares eight solutions on the market and details the company, the hosting and the reviews of each one.

What 3CX does better than us

Four areas where the choice is not open to debate. Knowing them before you buy avoids a project that goes off course in the third month.

The scope of a phone system

Skipcall receives calls on your numbers, with voicemail and mobile and web apps. What it does not have is the layer above: interactive voice response, call queues, distribution to a group of agents, real time supervision. 3CX is a complete phone system, and a structured reception desk needs that layer.

The cost when not everyone is on the line

3CX does not bill per user but by the number of calls that can run at the same time, at a fixed price per system per year. The 8 simultaneous calls tier, at €285 per year on the Basic edition, covers up to 40 extensions. In an organisation where staff pick up the phone occasionally, no named licence can compete on that ground.

Control over the installation

The software installs on your servers or in your cloud account, with the SIP provider of your choice and the upgrade schedule you decide. Skipcall does not offer self-hosting: it is a service we run for you, and that is a deliberate position, not a feature we are late to ship.

Large organisations and desk phones

Beyond a hundred or so employees, telephony becomes a project in its own right: several sites, several departments, reception rules, a fleet of IP phones to configure. 3CX is equipped for that, and its price list scales to several hundred extensions. Skipcall is built for smaller organisations, where one team prospects and the rest of the company simply needs to make calls.

What Skipcall does better than 3CX

The same exercise in reverse, and verifiable the same way: four areas where the gap runs our way. None of them is about the price of the licence, where the advantage stays with 3CX.

Parallel dialling

The feature list published by 3CX contains no dialler at all, sequential, parallel or predictive: a prospecting team there dials numbers one by one. At Skipcall, four lines go out together and artificial intelligence screens out answering machines, switchboards and invalid numbers before they reach the sales rep.

Running the system, handled by us

A 3CX system installs on your server or in your cloud account: someone in your organisation administers it, applies the patches, watches the backups and decides on upgrades, and vendor support is paid per ticket. Skipcall is a service we run and update continuously, with no server to administer and no on-call duty on your side.

The same scope on every plan

At 3CX, CRM integration and call recording start at the Pro edition, call transcription and the call summary at the AI edition. At Skipcall, transcription is included in every plan, as are the call summary, call sequences, contacts, data enrichment and the four native integrations: the functional scope does not depend on the edition you buy.

Time to go live

Opening a 3CX system means a server or a cloud instance, a SIP trunk contract with a carrier, configuring the extensions and one person appointed to keep it all running: the numbers and the software are two separate contracts. At Skipcall, everything sits in the same subscription and the team is on the line the day it signs up.

Two families of tools, and only one that covers both

Most organisations that prospect end up with two subscriptions: a telephony tool for everyone, a dialler for the sales team. That is the real hidden cost of this market, and it shows up on no price list.

Business telephony and software phone systems

This is the family 3CX belongs to.

Reception, voice menus, ring groups, transfers, call queues, desk phones. Billing by simultaneous calls keeps the cost per extension very low when calls do not overlap.

No dialler in the published feature list. Your sales reps dial numbers one by one, by hand.

Specialised parallel diallers

Tools built for a single job.

Simultaneous dialling on several lines, answering machine detection, callback cadences. Very effective in prospecting.

No telephony layer. The rest of the organisation, which just needs a number and the ability to receive calls, has to be equipped elsewhere. So a second subscription.

Skipcall

Both, in the same tool.

Parallel dialling on four lines, at the level of the best specialists, plus the telephony layer: business number, inbound calls, voicemail, SMS, mobile and web apps. Hosted software, with no server to install.

Fewer reception features than a phone system, and no self-hosting. That is deliberate: beyond a hundred or so employees, an inbound specialist is the better answer.

In practice: at Skipcall, a €15 licence is enough to equip someone who simply needs a business number, an app and the ability to receive their calls. The sales reps who prospect take a plan from €75, with parallel dialling. Same tool, same directory, same invoice, and no server to administer.

It all comes down to the dialling mode

Sequential dialling

One number is dialled, the line rings, then the call connects or it does not. Only at the end of that sequence does the next number go out. The sales rep waits through the ringing, listens to the start of answering machines and hangs up. That is the way of working a phone system imposes: the feature list published by 3CX contains no dialler at all, sequential, parallel or predictive, so numbers are dialled one by one.

Parallel dialling

Four numbers go out at the same time. As soon as someone picks up, the three other lines are released and the sales rep is connected. Artificial intelligence screens out answering machines, switchboards and invalid numbers before they reach them. The waiting time between two calls disappears, which changes the number of conversations obtained for the same working time.

The difference is not about voice quality or how rich the software is: it is about the number of attempts possible in an hour of work. That is what the next table puts into figures.

A typical day, hour by hour

Same sales rep, same list, same working time. Only the dialling mode changes.

Assumptions on show: four working slots, an answer rate of 3% when numbers are dialled one by one and 8% with parallel dialling. These are the figures published by Skipcall, applied to dialling modes and not to brands. The detail is in the “Method and sources” section, further down.

The cost per conversation, and what it does not tell you

3CX does not bill per user: the comparison only makes sense once team size is fixed. Here is the assumption used, shown on screen so you can redo it with your own.

The calculation assumption

Five sales reps working full time on the phone, twenty working days a month, the typical day above. A team of that profile consumes almost one simultaneous call per person: it therefore sits at the first commercial tier of 3CX, the one for 8 simultaneous calls. The edition used is Pro, at €380 per year, and not Basic, because CRM integration is not part of the Basic edition.

3CX Pro, 8 simultaneous calls

€0.05

per conversation, licence only

Licence: €380 per year, or €31.67 per month for the team

Conversations: 600 per month

Not included: server, SIP trunks, support per ticket, administration

Skipcall Expert, 5 licences

€0.25

per conversation, everything included

Licences: €280 per month per sales rep, or €1,400

Conversations: 5,600 per month

Not included: nothing, the service is run for you

Let us say it plainly: on this calculation, the 3CX licence works out much cheaper per conversation, and that makes sense. A flat licence spread across a whole team does not compare with five named licences. What the amount does not tell you is the volume: for the same working time, the team obtains 600 conversations on one side and 5,600 on the other. The real trade-off is therefore not the price of the budget line, but the number of conversations your sales reps can hold in a month.

Two points that weigh on the amount on the left. The 3CX licence covers neither the server or cloud instance, nor the SIP trunks, nor the administration time, and support is sold per ticket, €100 each or €350 for five. And if you want call transcription and the call summary, included in every Skipcall plan, you have to move to the AI edition, at €715 per year at the same tier. The Skipcall plan used is the one whose quota actually covers the projected volume: at this pace, Intermediate and its 1,000 conversations would be used up before the end of the month.

Amounts excluding tax, in euros, excluding current promotions. The 3CX cost per conversation falls mechanically as the team grows at a constant tier, while the Skipcall figure stays stable because it is set per licence.

Our plans include a conversation quota. Here is the one that suits you

3CX does not limit the number of conversations, but it caps the number of extensions and the number of simultaneous calls according to the tier you buy. Skipcall works differently, with a conversation quota on three of its four plans. Better to explain it clearly: chosen badly, the plan becomes the real hidden cost.

PlanPriceConversationsWho it suits
Business VoIP€15200Staff who need a business number and make a few calls a day, with no prospecting.
Starter€75400A sales rep who prospects part time, or a team getting started. Around 20 conversations per working day.
Intermediate€1501,000A sales rep whose main job is phone prospecting. Around 50 conversations per working day.
Expert€280UnlimitedTeams with very high volumes, and those who would rather not watch a counter.

Price per licence per month, excluding tax, with no minimum number of licences. Every conversation longer than ten seconds is counted. Calls shorter than ten seconds, answering machines and invalid numbers consume nothing. The list of countries you can call is on the pricing page.

Our artificial intelligence serves the sales rep, it does not replace them

That is the fundamental difference between Skipcall and part of the market, in both directions: we put more of it in than the tools that have none, and we refuse to put it where others place it.

What our artificial intelligence does

It screens out answering machines, switchboards and invalid numbers before they reach the sales rep. It transcribes the call and produces a summary. In other words, it removes work that has no value and leaves the work that does.

What it does not do

It does not speak for you. We do not offer a voice agent, and that is not a feature we are late to ship: it is a position. To call a prospect or answer a customer, the best person for your company's image is still a member of your team.

Why the relationship matters

A company that hands its conversations to a machine loses the direct link with its contacts. That link is hard to rebuild, and its weakening does not show up on a dashboard for several months.

Why the cost matters too

Voice agents are billed by the minute or by the credits consumed. The invoice follows the volume, it is hard to forecast, and the real effect on the customer relationship is hard to measure. A fixed price licence stays a budget you control.

In one sentence

We automate what wastes your sales reps' time, never the conversation itself.

Dialling, screening out an answering machine, spotting an invalid number, transcribing, summarising: the machine does it better and without tiring. Talking to a customer or a prospect, no. That limit is also what keeps your budget predictable: a fixed price licence, not billing by the minute that follows your volume.

3CX scope recorded on 3cx.com on 3 September 2026, from the public price list and the feature list. “Not advertised” means the feature does not appear in the vendor's public documentation, not that it would be impossible. Editions change: check the vendor's pricing page before you decide.

Method and sources

A comparison published by one of the two vendors is only worth something if its method can be checked. Here is where every figure on this page comes from, including what it does not prove.

The prices

Skipcall prices are those of the public price list, excluding tax, on monthly billing. 3CX prices are those of the vendor's public price list, in euros, excluding tax and excluding promotions: €285 per year for the Basic edition at the 8 simultaneous calls tier, €380 for the Pro edition and €715 for the AI edition. Both vendors bill in euros, so no currency conversion is involved on this page.

The team assumption, and why it is needed

3CX does not bill per user: comparing a named licence with a price per system only makes sense once team size is fixed. We use five sales reps working full time on the phone. A team of that kind consumes almost one simultaneous call per person, which places the company at the first commercial tier, the one for 8 simultaneous calls. The edition used is Pro and not Basic, because CRM integration is not part of the Basic edition. Change the team assumption and the result changes: that is the very nature of this billing model.

The answer rates

The 8% rate with parallel dialling and the 3% rate when numbers are dialled one by one are the figures published by Skipcall on its product pages. They are our own figures, not an independent measurement, and they are attributed to no vendor by name: they describe two dialling modes, not two brands.

The typical day

The hourly table is an arithmetic projection based on the call volumes and the rates above, across four working slots and twenty working days a month. It is not the record of a real day. Your figures will depend on your list, your sector and your calling hours.

What we do not compare here

The vendor's identity, its funding, data hosting and public reviews are not covered on this page. They are dealt with, with sources, on the alternatives to 3CX page.

Frequently asked questions

Does 3CX have a dialler for outbound prospecting?+

No. The feature list published by 3CX covers the phone system, voice menus, call queues, recording, reporting and the contact centre, but mentions no automatic dialler, sequential, parallel or predictive. A prospecting team therefore dials numbers one by one, with the dead time that implies between two attempts. Skipcall dials four lines in parallel and connects the sales rep to the first person who answers.

How does 3CX billing by simultaneous calls work?+

3CX does not bill per user. The price is fixed per system per year and depends on the number of calls that can run at the same time, internal and external alike. The 8 simultaneous calls tier covers up to 40 extensions, the 16 tier up to 80. An organisation whose staff are not all on the phone at the same moment pays far less than with a per user licence. Conversely, a team entirely dedicated to the phone consumes almost one simultaneous call per person, and the advantage narrows.

Is Skipcall cheaper than 3CX?+

No, and this page shows it with the figures. On the assumption of five sales reps working full time, the 3CX Pro licence works out at €31.67 per month for the whole team, while five Skipcall Expert licences cost €1,400. What the gap buys is the volume of conversations: 5,600 a month against 600, for the same working time. The 3CX licence price also covers neither the server, nor the SIP trunks, nor support, which is sold per ticket.

Can Skipcall replace a 3CX phone system?+

Partly. Skipcall provides business numbers, inbound calls, voicemail, SMS and mobile and web apps. It offers no interactive voice response, no call queue, no distribution of calls to a group of agents and no real time supervision. If your phone system performs those functions today, Skipcall will not take them over.

Can Skipcall be hosted on your own servers?+

No, and that is a choice. Skipcall is a service we run, updated continuously, with no server to administer and no backups to watch on your side. If full control of the installation is a decision criterion for you, 3CX answers that need and Skipcall does not.

How many conversations are included in a Skipcall plan?+

400 per licence per month on the Starter plan, 1,000 on Intermediate, unlimited on Expert, and 200 on the Business VoIP offer. Every conversation longer than ten seconds is counted. A sales rep prospecting full time with parallel dialling goes past the Intermediate quota: Expert is the plan that matches that use.

Compare on your own calls

One licence is enough to run a list and count your conversations. That is the only comparison worth making.
