The essentials

  • Trellus is an American company founded in 2022 in New York, part of the Y Combinator W22 batch and published by Outpost Labs Inc.
  • It is not a telecoms operator but a Chrome browser extension that sits on top of an existing sales engagement platform: Salesloft, Outreach, HubSpot, Apollo, Salesforce, Zoho, VanillaSoft or Amplemarket. Without one of them, the product does not run.
  • Real time coaching and team analytics appear only on the Business plan, whose price is not published.
  • The individual plans are listed at $99.99 (Power) and $149.99 (Parallel) per user per month, with a promotional price of $34.99 on 3 September 2026.
  • Under French law, most of the coaching happens after the call: the CNIL caps the retention of recordings at six months and rules out any permanent monitoring.

The 8 solutions at a glance

Eight vendors are regularly set against Trellus, with positions that have nothing in common. Telling them apart avoids comparing a coaching overlay with a telecoms operator.

The market splits into two families. On the left, business telephony: Aircall, Ringover, CloudTalk. On the right, prospecting tools: Trellus, Nooks and Orum for the American market, Flunter in France. Trellus stands apart on one point: it is the only one of the group that replaces nothing, since it plugs into a platform you already own.

Skipcall spans both. The same platform equips prospecting teams with the four line parallel dialler, call transcription and the call summary, and every other employee who simply needs an extension (management, admin, customer service) with a line at €15 a month. So there is no third party platform to maintain and no second contract to sign.

Who Trellus is

Trellus is an American vendor founded in 2022 in New York by Craig Bonnoit and Ajinkya Nene, both former MIT students, and part of the Y Combinator W22 batch. The publishing company is called Outpost Labs Inc. The team stays small: three people according to the profile published by Y Combinator. So this is neither an operator nor an enterprise platform, but a tight product built around one precise idea.

That idea: add a dialler and on screen assistance during the call, inside a tool you already use. In practice, a Chrome extension overlays Salesloft, Outreach, HubSpot, Apollo, Salesforce, Zoho, VanillaSoft or Amplemarket, dials the numbers for you, filters out answering machines, then shows a live speaking pace indicator, suggested objection handling and questions to ask. After the call come the transcription, a report and a draft email. The whole product lives in that one moment: the conversation itself.

What users say

For a vendor of this size, the ratings say less than the conditions of use. The volume of public reviews is too small to show a trend: here is what can be verified, and what matters more.

Product Hunt 7 reviews
4.4 / 5

This is the only public review volume identifiable enough to be quoted. The positive feedback is about the assistance during the call and about removing the dialling work. The number of reviews is far too small to read a trend into: at this stage, the product sheet and the contract terms tell you more than the ratings.

The four points below are not a matter of opinion: they follow from the documentation published by the vendor and from the nature of the product itself. They are what to check before a trial, because they drive the real budget and the technical feasibility.

The dependency on a third party platform

Trellus does not run on its own. You need one of the supported engagement platforms, and its cost adds to the Trellus licence. That is the first figure to work out, because it often doubles the real budget per rep.

The browser as a condition of use

The product ships as a Chrome extension. It does not run on Firefox, nor on Safari, nor outside the browser. For a team whose workstation is standardised on another browser, that constraint has to be lifted before any trial.

Coaching reserved for the Business plan

Real time coaching, team analytics and conversation intelligence are not part of the Power and Parallel plans shown at the public price. They belong to the Business plan, whose price is not published and is negotiated case by case.

A deliberately narrow scope

The product covers the call and LinkedIn messaging. It carries neither SMS nor multichannel sequences: those stay in the host platform. That is consistent with its position as an overlay, but it means maintaining two tools.

Where the data is hosted

A coaching tool processes recordings and transcriptions, that is personal data about both your employees and your prospects. It is the first point your legal department will raise.

Trellus

United States

The publishing company is Outpost Labs Inc., registered at 28-07 Jackson Ave, Queens, New York. The data processing agreement names neither a hosting country nor a cloud provider, and covers transfers from the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland through the standard contractual clauses.

Skipcall

Scaleway, France

Hosting is provided by a French cloud provider, which places the processing under the GDPR and European law with no transfer to a third country. Recordings and transcriptions never leave the country.

The published pricing and what it covers

Trellus publishes its pricing, which not all of its competitors do. The point to watch sits elsewhere: the licence does not cover the same scope as a subscription to a standalone platform.

This is the decisive line: Trellus adds to an existing subscription, it does not replace it. So the cost per rep is the Trellus licence plus the host platform, to be set against the cost of a standalone platform.

What to check before switching

01
What you already pay for the host platform

Trellus adds to an engagement platform, it does not replace it. Add the two subscriptions together before comparing anything: that total, not the price of the Trellus licence, is what should sit opposite a solution that carries the dialler and the phone line itself.

02
Exporting the recordings and the transcriptions

Ask for the export while the account is still active, and check the format you get back. Recordings and their transcriptions are the raw material of your coaching: once lost they cannot be rebuilt, and their teaching value falls away with time in any case.

03
What coaching during the call actually delivers

Measure it before you pay for it. Guidance shown on screen during the conversation helps a rep in their first week, far less a seasoned one. If your best people switch the display off after three days, the value sits elsewhere: in what you do with the calls once you hang up.

04
Whether your recording setup is compliant

Written notice to the reps, consultation of the works council, an announcement at the start of the call, a configured retention period: these obligations fall on you, not on the vendor. Check that the tool you choose lets you meet them, and in particular that it can purge recordings automatically.

Coaching from recordings: the loop that works

Most teams record their calls and do nothing with them. The files pile up, nobody opens them, and coaching comes down to an end of week comment on a few numbers. Here is the loop that turns that dormant material into measurable progress, with what is at stake at each step and the mistake that cancels out the benefit.

1 Step 1 Make the setup lawful before you listen to the first call
  • Give the reps written notice before go live, as article L1222-4 of the French Labour Code requires
  • Inform and consult the works council before any decision to install, as the CNIL asks
  • Announce at the start of the call that it is being recorded, why, and that the other party may object

The trap. Recording every call continuously. The CNIL rules out permanent or systematic monitoring: coaching justifies a sample, not surveillance.

2 Step 2 Listen to little, but in the right place
  • Set a workable quota: five calls per rep per week, not one more
  • Draw the sample by outcome rather than at random: two answered calls that went nowhere, two meetings booked, one call cut short in under twenty seconds
  • Block the listening slot in the calendar, on the same day and at the same time every week

The trap. Picking the calls to listen to on Friday afternoon, when there is time left. Coaching that depends on spare time never happens.

3 Step 3 Watch only three things, always the same three
  • The first twenty seconds: what is said before the prospect decides to stay or hang up
  • The sentence that follows the first objection: a justification, or a question?
  • Speaking time: the share of the call the rep talks, read off the transcription rather than judged by ear

The trap. Scoring the call on a fifteen criteria grid. Three observations you can compare from one week to the next beat a score nobody remembers the next day.

4 Step 4 Give feedback so that the following week changes
  • A thirty minute session, a single point to work on, phrased as a sentence to try rather than a fault to fix
  • Have the rep listen again to the exact passage, with the timestamp, rather than describing it to them
  • Write the commitment down in one line and open the next session with it

The trap. Ending with "keep it up". A session without a single point to work on leaves the rep feeling heard, not behaving differently.

This loop needs no extra tool, but it does need easy access to the material. Skipcall provides the transcription and the summary of every call, and its API exposes recordings, transcriptions and metrics for reading: enough to build the weekly sample, read off speaking time and feed your own grid without retyping anything.

To avoid

The 5 mistakes that make coaching useless

Each one turns up in teams that have been recording their calls diligently for months without ever getting any progress out of it.

  1. 01 Recording without having given notice to the people concerned: the setup is unlawful, and so is what you take from it.
  2. 02 Listening to the longest calls. They are the most comfortable to comment on, rarely the most instructive.
  3. 03 Coaching on the outcome rather than on the behaviour. A booked meeting does not tell you what produced it.
  4. 04 Waiting for the monthly review. Between the call and the feedback, the rep has made several hundred more calls with the same reflex.
  5. 05 Keeping recordings beyond six months. The CNIL sets that limit for recordings, and one year for the analysis documents.

Before you sign

The 5 questions to ask a coaching vendor

  1. 01 Is real time coaching part of the plan on offer, or of a higher tier priced on request?
  2. 02 In which country are the recordings and the transcriptions stored, and with which host?
  3. 03 In what format can I export the recordings, the transcriptions and the metrics, and at what point?
  4. 04 What is the default retention period, and can I bring it down to six months?
  5. 05 Does the tool work without the engagement platform we use today?

What do you actually need?

Three uses, three families of tools. Most bad choices come from confusing the first two, because they carry the same word: coaching.

What do you need?
Coach after the call Dialler with transcription included Skipcall · Flunter
Assist during the call Coaching overlay Trellus · Nooks · Orum
Inbound calls and switchboard Cloud telephony Aircall · Ringover · CloudTalk

Helping a rep while they are speaking and making them better from one week to the next are two different jobs. The first is paid for by the licence and fades with experience. The second costs nothing but the discipline of one hour a week, provided the recordings and the transcriptions are within reach.

Who each solution is for

Trellus remains the right choice if

  • you already run Salesloft, Outreach, HubSpot or Apollo and have no plan to move
  • your reps prospect in English, mainly on the North American market
  • you want guidance shown during the conversation rather than a telecoms operator
  • your workstation is standardised on Chrome

An alternative makes sense if

  • you want the dialler, the phone line and transcription in a single subscription
  • hosting the data in France is a requirement from your legal department
  • you coach from recordings rather than during the call
  • you alternate calls and SMS within the same prospecting sequence

Frequently asked questions

What is Trellus exactly? +

Trellus is an American Chrome extension that adds a dialler and AI assistance to an existing sales engagement platform. During the call it shows speaking pace indicators, suggested objection handling and questions to ask. After the call it produces the transcription, a report and a draft follow up email. It is published by Outpost Labs Inc., a New York company founded in 2022 and part of the Y Combinator W22 batch.

Can you use Trellus without Salesloft, Outreach or HubSpot? +

No. Trellus works as an overlay: it needs one of the supported platforms, namely Salesloft, Outreach, HubSpot, Apollo, Salesforce, Zoho, VanillaSoft or Amplemarket, to which Clay and Google Sheets are added as contact sources. A team that has none of these tools cannot use it. That is the structural difference with a standalone platform, which carries its own contacts, its own call sequences and its own phone line.

How much does Trellus cost? +

On 3 September 2026, the pricing page shows two individual plans: Power at $99.99 per user per month and Parallel at $149.99, both presented with a promotional price of $34.99. The Business plan, the only one to include real time coaching and team analytics, is priced on request. On top of those amounts comes the subscription to the engagement platform, without which the product does not run.

Does Trellus offer a parallel dialler? +

Yes. The Parallel plan gives access to multi line dialling, up to five simultaneous lines according to the vendor documentation, with automatic filtering of answering machines and busy signals. The Power plan dials one number at a time.

What is the best Trellus alternative in 2026? +

It depends on what you are trying to replace. If it is the assistance during the call, the alternatives are Nooks and Orum, positioned on the same American market. If it is the dialler, the question becomes one of scope: a standalone platform such as Skipcall provides the phone line, the four line parallel dialler, contacts, call sequences, transcription and the call summary in a single subscription, with no third party platform to maintain and with data hosted in France.

Where is Trellus customer data hosted? +

The data processing agreement published by the vendor names neither a hosting country nor a cloud provider. It identifies the importing company as Outpost Labs Inc., registered in New York, and covers transfers from the European Union, the United Kingdom and Switzerland through the standard contractual clauses. For a French legal department, that means a transfer to a third country, with the assessment paperwork that goes with it.

Is real time coaching during a call legal in France? +

Monitoring and recording calls at work are allowed provided they are proportionate and declared. The CNIL requires prior notice to employees, consultation of the works council and an announcement of the setup to the other party at the start of the call, with a mention of their right to object. It rules out any permanent or systematic monitoring, unless a specific legal provision applies. Automated analysis of every conversation therefore has to be examined against that standard before it is rolled out.

How long can a call recording be kept? +

The French framework, as set out by the CNIL, allows six months at most for the recordings themselves, and one year for the analysis documents drawn from them. It recommends buffer recording: the recording is deleted shortly after the assessment sheet is written. Longer periods exist only where a legal text provides for them, for example five years in banking as evidence.

Should you coach during the call or after it? +

The two answer different needs. During the call, a pace indicator or a suggested objection response mainly helps a rep still in training, and its effect fades once the reflexes are in place. After the call, listening to a sample of recordings alongside the transcription lets you work on what cannot be fixed live: the structure of the opener, the question asked after an objection, the share of speaking time. That second loop is what produces lasting progress, and it needs no extra tool as long as the recordings and the transcriptions are within reach.

Does Trellus provide phone numbers? +

The paid plans include additional numbers with spam flag handling: five on the Power plan, eight on the Parallel plan. The vendor does not present itself as a business telecoms operator for all that: managing extensions, transfers and the switchboard stays outside its scope.

Is there a French alternative to Trellus? +

Skipcall is a French telephony and prospecting platform hosted with Scaleway. The scope is not the same: Skipcall does not offer real time coaching during the call, but it provides the phone line, the four line parallel dialler, contacts, call sequences, transcription and the call summary, along with a read API giving access to recordings, transcriptions and metrics. That material is what feeds coaching carried out after the call.
