# Grok Bot Can Call for You: What We Actually Know

On October 25, 2026, Elon Musk said Grok Bot can now call a person or a business for you and send back a summary. Here is the evidence behind that claim, what a call is supposed to look like, which X plans include Grok Bot, where it seems to work, and how it stacks up against Google's Call for Me.

Grok Bot, xAI’s personal AI agent, is supposed to make phone calls for you: dial a person or a business, ask for what you need, take notes, and send you a summary. That is what Elon Musk announced on October 25, 2026. As of early November, the feature has been seen in preview builds but is not documented by xAI, and independent testers have not been able to place a real call.

This page is the fact sheet. It separates what is confirmed from what was only previewed, explains which plans include Grok Bot and where it seems to work, and compares it with the other assistants that call on your behalf. For the bigger picture of how Grok works on the phone, start with our [complete guide to Grok and phone calls](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/grok-phone-calls-guide).

Grok Bot opens in beta on desktop and iPhone at the same time

Oct 25, 2026

Elon Musk announces on X that Grok Bot can now place calls for you

4 days

of testing by Techloy at the end of October without a single real call going through

## What did Elon Musk actually announce?

The announcement was one post on X. Musk wrote that Grok Bot “can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation!”

That sentence describes four actions and nothing more. It says nothing about hold queues, phone menus, transfers, countries or pricing. Those details came from elsewhere: a post by another user that Musk quoted, and testers who got their hands on 0.77.0 preview builds and shared screenshots of a calls tab.

The distinction matters, because most coverage blended the two. What Musk promised is a short list. What testers saw is a longer list, but it comes from unreleased software.

## What is Grok Bot, beyond phone calls?

Grok Bot is not the Grok chatbot you use inside X or the Grok app. It is an agent: instead of only answering, it carries out tasks. To do that, it runs on its own computer in the cloud, where it can open a browser, read pages, fill in forms and chain several steps while you do something else.

Its history runs through Cursor, the AI code editor. According to Engadget, Grok Bot was built there under the code name “Sand,” before xAI acquired Cursor (announced June 16, 2026, closed August 14). xAI opened the beta on August 11, 2026, on desktop and iPhone at the same time. Android followed, with no official date.

One note on the company name, since it keeps changing: xAI acquired X in March 2025, then SpaceX acquired xAI on February 2, 2026. Coverage now uses several names. This series simply says xAI.

## What can a Grok Bot call do?

Here is what a call is supposed to cover, combining Musk’s post and what testers reported from the preview builds.

**Dial and speak for you**

Grok dials the number, introduces itself, states your request, and answers questions within the limits you gave it.

**Wait on hold**

Testers saw a call status that shows when the line is on hold. For anyone who has spent an hour listening to a cable company’s hold music, this is the headline feature.

**Get through phone menus**

The preview builds showed key presses to navigate “press 1, press 2” menus, and the call following a transfer from one department to another.

**Transcribe and summarize**

A live transcript appears during the call, according to testers. When it ends, Grok sends a note with what was said and what was agreed.

The use cases you see everywhere, booking a table, confirming an appointment, chasing a warranty claim, are illustrations from press coverage and testers. xAI has not listed them itself. To see a typical call walked through screen by screen, read [how Grok makes a phone call, step by step](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/how-grok-makes-a-call).

## Can you use Grok Bot phone calls today?

This is the question to ask first, and the honest answer is: not in a way anyone has verified.

On October 25, 2026, Grok Bot’s official changelog stopped at version 0.75.5, dated October 23. xAI’s documentation had no page on outbound calls, and its FAQ still only described “voice chat,” meaning a spoken conversation with the bot itself. The calls tab came from 0.77.0-pre builds spotted by testers.

Two more signals call for caution. Bots n’ Beans reported that calls require a third-party connector, which contradicts the idea of a built-in feature. And on October 31, Techloy reported that four days of testing produced no real call.

![Status board for Grok Bot phone calls in three columns. Confirmed: beta since August 11, 2026, five supported operating systems, included in X Premium, Super and Ultra, terms that require announcing the virtual assistant. Seen in preview: placing the call, waiting on hold, phone menus, transfers, live transcript and summary. Not disclosed: countries covered, stable release date, any per-call cost, which voice model handles calls](https://skipcall.io/assets/infographies/grok/figures/en/etat-grok-bot.jpg)

What we know about Grok Bot calls, sorted by strength of evidence: only the left column rests on official sources.

## Which plan includes Grok Bot, and what does it cost?

xAI reorganized its plans on October 12, 2026 under the name “The X Subscription.” The official pricing page could not be opened during our checks, so the prices below come from press coverage.

| Tier | Monthly price (press reports) | Includes Grok Bot |
| - | - | - |
| Free | $0 | No |
| Plus | $8 | No |
| Premium | $30 | Yes |
| Super | $100 | Yes |
| Ultra | $200 | Yes |

Existing SuperGrok subscribers ($30, $100 or $300 depending on the plan) keep access, except SuperGrok Lite. On the Cursor side, Grok Bot has been included in existing paid plans since late August 2026, including Cursor Pro at $20. That is a Cursor price, not a Grok Bot price, and it is why you may have seen “Grok Bot for $20” online.

No per-minute fee has been announced for calls placed by Grok Bot. That is a clear difference from xAI’s business tools, which bill by the minute, as explained in our [Grok Voice Agent API guide](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/grok-voice-agent-api-guide).

## Does it work everywhere in the US?

Devices are the easy part. The official FAQ lists macOS, Windows, Linux, iPhone on iOS 18 or later, and Android 9 or later.

Geography is not. xAI has published no list of countries or states. When Techloy’s tester asked, the bot replied that calls only worked for users located in the United States, excluding Washington and Illinois, to US numbers. That is what the bot said about itself, not a published rule, but it is the most specific answer available. Readers outside the US should assume calling is not available to them yet.

## Will the person on the other end know it’s an AI?

This is the sensitive point for every assistant that calls on your behalf.

An excerpt of Grok Bot’s terms of service, found in search results because the page itself was blocked, says calls “identify themselves as made by a virtual assistant” on the customer’s behalf and “may be recorded,” and that the customer “may not alter or disable these disclosures.” The same terms reportedly ban telemarketing, mass calling and impersonation, and require calling only people who have agreed to it. CellCog still considered the question open on October 25, and the terms may have changed since.

There is also a regulatory backdrop. Since February 2024, the FCC treats AI-generated voices as artificial voices under the TCPA, which is why consent questions follow AI calls around.

> Grok Bot is not a robocaller. It is a personal assistant that runs your errands on the phone and says up front that it is an AI.

If you are the one picking up, we collected the tells of an artificial voice in [how to tell if an AI is calling you](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/how-to-tell-if-an-ai-is-calling).

## How does Grok Bot compare with Google Call for Me?

Grok Bot did not invent the idea. Google has been here before, mostly in the US.

| | Grok Bot | Google Call for Me | Google Ask for Me | OpenAI Realtime API |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| **For** | X subscribers | Pixel 11 owners | Google Search users | Developers |
| **What it does** | Calls for you, summarizes | Calls businesses, waits on hold | Asks local businesses for prices and availability | Building block for your own agent |
| **Where** | Not published | United States | United States | Wherever you deploy it (SIP) |
| **Says it’s an AI** | Yes, per its terms | Yes, on a recorded line, per press | Businesses can opt out | Up to the developer |
| **Status** | Announced Oct 25, 2026 | Experiment since Sep 24, 2026 | Available since 2024 | Generally available since Aug 28, 2025 |

What sets Grok Bot apart is that it is a general agent. A phone call is one action among many, next to browsing and filling forms, rather than a standalone calling product. To understand how any of these hold a smooth phone conversation, see [how Grok talks on the phone](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/how-grok-talks-on-the-phone).

## Who should use Grok Bot, and who shouldn’t?

Grok Bot is built for the busy consumer or solo professional who wants to hand off a one-off errand: get information, book something, chase customer service. Low volume, personal use, with someone on the other end who accepts talking to an assistant.

It is not built for sales teams. Its terms exclude telemarketing and mass calling, and real prospecting needs identifiable business numbers, a CRM history and a human voice that can handle objections. Businesses that want an agent on their own line use a different xAI tool, the [Grok Voice Agent Builder](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/grok-voice-agent-builder-review).

For your reps, the right foundation is still a [business phone system](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/business-phone-system) where each person calls from a real company number and AI helps with transcripts and summaries without talking for them. That is what Skipcall does, from $25 per month (billed annually).

## The bottom line

Grok Bot is xAI’s AI agent, in beta since August 11, 2026 and included in the X Subscription Premium, Super and Ultra tiers. Since Elon Musk’s October 25 post, it is supposed to call people and businesses for you, wait on hold, get through phone menus and send a summary. But the feature is undocumented, no country list exists, and early independent tests failed. When it does call, it identifies as a virtual assistant and is not allowed for telemarketing. Worth watching closely, not yet worth relying on. To place Grok Bot among xAI’s other phone tools, see our [Grok phone calls guide](https://skipcall.io/en/blog/grok-phone-calls-guide).

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

**Is Grok Bot's calling feature available to everyone?**

Not in a way anyone can verify yet. Elon Musk announced it on October 25, 2026 and testers saw it in 0.77 preview builds, but xAI's documentation has no page on outbound calls, and a Techloy tester got no real call through in four days. Treat it as a rollout in progress.

**Do I need a separate phone plan for Grok Bot calls?**

xAI has not described any separate calling plan or number. One outlet, Bots n' Beans, reported that calls require a third-party connector, which would contradict the idea of a built-in feature. Until xAI documents the setup, there is no reliable answer.

**Can Grok Bot call from my own phone number?**

xAI has not said which caller ID Grok Bot uses. Google's Call for Me, by comparison, calls from the user's number according to press coverage. Check the caller ID on a test call before relying on it for anything that needs to be recognized.

**Is Grok Bot available in every US state?**

There is no published list. Asked by a Techloy tester, the bot said calls worked for users in the United States except Washington and Illinois, to US numbers. That is the bot's own answer, not an official rule, and it may change.

**Can I use Grok Bot for sales calls?**

No. According to an excerpt of Grok Bot's terms, the service prohibits telemarketing, mass calling and impersonation, and calls identify themselves as made by a virtual assistant. It is built for personal errands, not outbound prospecting.

**How is Grok Bot different from the regular Grok chat?**

The Grok chat answers questions. Grok Bot is an agent with its own cloud computer: it can browse, fill in forms, chain several steps, and now, according to Musk, place a call. It was developed inside Cursor under the code name Sand before xAI launched it.
