# RingCentral alternatives: 8 solutions compared (2026)

This page brings together what a decision maker needs before choosing: who RingCentral is, what its French plans actually contain, the price by headcount tier, the contract term and its notice period, where the data is hosted, and what it changes in practice to be a small contract with a very large vendor.

Key points

- RingCentral is an American company founded in 1999 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2013 under the ticker RNG. It claims more than 600,000 customers, 8,000 employees across 17 countries and availability in 46 countries.
- The plan comparison published for France lists no outbound dialler. RingEX is a business phone system (IVR, call recording, video meetings, team messaging), not a prospecting tool.
- French pricing depends on the size of the team, across four public tiers: 1 user, 2 to 19, 20 to 99, 100 and above. For a team of 2 to 19 people, the Standard plan is listed at €14.99 per licence per month on an annual commitment.
- The French terms and conditions provide for automatic renewal for a term identical to the initial term, a 30-day notice period to prevent renewal, and payment of the amounts still due until the end of the term in the event of early termination.
- The Trustpilot rating is 1.7 out of 5 across 1,977 reviews, of which 64% are one-star reviews, mostly about reaching support, billing and cancellation.

## The 8 solutions at a glance

Eight vendors, with positions that have nothing to do with one another. Telling them apart avoids comparing a business phone system with a prospecting dialler, and blaming one for not doing the other's job.

The market splits into two families. On the left, business telephony: RingCentral, Aircall, Ringover, CloudTalk. On the right, prospecting diallers: Nooks and Orum for the American market, Flunter in France. RingCentral sits furthest left on the map, because it also holds the most complete scope on that ground.

Skipcall spans both. The same platform equips outbound teams with the four-line parallel dialler, and every other employee who simply needs a line (management, admin, customer service) from $25 per month. So you do not have to run one provider for the company alongside a dialler for the sales team, with two contracts, two invoices and two directories.

## Who RingCentral is

RingCentral is an American vendor of cloud business communications, founded in 1999 by Vlad Shmunis and Vlad Vendrow and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2013 under the ticker RNG. The company claims more than 600,000 customers, 8,000 employees across 17 countries and commercial availability in 46 countries. It is one of the most established players in the sector: the question is not how solid it is, but how well its scope matches yours. The RingEX range is a business phone system, not to be confused with an outbound prospecting tool.

## What users say

Only one public source could be recorded and verified on the date shown: Trustpilot. It deserves to be read for what it is, a thermometer of the contractual relationship rather than an assessment of the product.

Trustpilot

1,977 reviews

1.7

/ 5

The distribution is heavily skewed: 64% one-star reviews and 19% five-star reviews. The recurring complaints are not about the calling features but about the contractual relationship: difficulty reaching support, the cancellation process, the gap between what was sold and what was delivered. Trustpilot collects unprompted feedback, often posted at the moment of a dispute: this rating measures the commercial relationship, not the technical quality of the service.

A distribution this polarised does not read as an average. It shows that a share of customers post a review at the moment of a dispute, and that those disputes are almost always about the same four subjects. Those are the ones to investigate before signing, not the calling features.

Reaching support

This is the most frequent theme in the negative reviews: difficulty getting hold of someone, transfers between departments, waiting times. Read it alongside the fact that the subprocessor list published by RingCentral names support centres in Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico and the Philippines.

The cancellation process

Reviews report the absence of online cancellation and a renewal that lands before the customer has thought to give notice. The terms and conditions set the notice period at 30 days before the renewal date: that date, and not the availability of another tool, drives the timetable.

The gap with the sales promise

Several reviews describe a gap between the scope presented before the sale and the service actually opened. The check is simple: what counts is what appears on the signed order, not what was shown in a demo.

Billing

Unexpected invoices, lines that were never cancelled, amounts due for the remaining term. The terms and conditions provide that, on early termination, the customer pays the amounts still due until the end of the current term: the figure is therefore predictable, provided it was read beforehand.

## Where the data is hosted

This is the point most often missing from comparisons, and the first one your legal department will raise. Call recordings contain personal data, sometimes sensitive data.

RingCentral

United States, Switzerland and the Netherlands

The privacy notice states that data collected in the European Economic Area may be transferred to and stored on servers located in the United States, Switzerland and the Netherlands, under standard contractual clauses. The subprocessor list names Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure for hosting, along with a hosting provider located in France.

Skipcall

Scaleway, France

Hosting is provided by a French cloud provider, which places the processing under the GDPR and European law, any transfer outside the EU being covered by the DPA.

## Real cost and commitment

At RingCentral, the price shown depends on two parameters that comparisons forget: the headcount tier you fall into, and whether or not you accept an annual commitment. The prices below are those of the 2 to 19 users tier published on the French pricing page.

The RingCentral price assumes a term that renews automatically, with a 30-day notice period; without that commitment, the licence goes to €18.99.

## The French legal framework from 11 August 2026

This is the parameter most comparisons ignore, even though it changes the economics of phone prospecting in France.

French law of 30 June 2025

Since 11 August 2026, cold calling consumers in France has moved from opt-out to opt-in: a call is lawful only if the person has given prior consent. Bloctel, the French do-not-call register, disappears on that date. Business to business prospecting remains possible, subject to the rules that apply to data processing.

The direct consequence for the choice of a tool: the volume of permitted calls falls, so every attempt has to produce more. A dialler that filters out answering machines and puts your sales reps in conversation more often is no longer a comfort, it is what makes the channel profitable. That is precisely the building block a business phone system, RingEX included, does not contain.

## What to check before switching

01

The 30-day notice period and the renewal date

The terms and conditions provide for automatic renewal for a term identical to the initial term, unless notice is given at least 30 days before the renewal date. Find that date on your order before you start anything: it sets the window for switching, not the availability of the new tool.

02

The cost of leaving early

If you terminate for a reason other than a failure by the vendor, the contract provides for payment of the amounts still due for the services until the end of the current term. Put a figure on it before you decide: it may make waiting for the renewal date preferable to leaving mid-term.

03

Porting your numbers

Your numbers belong to you and can be ported from one operator to another. Ask your current provider for the information you need and start the process before you cancel: the order of operations determines service continuity.

04

The real scope of your setup

RingEX covers a wide scope: IVR, call recording, video meetings, team messaging, fax, CRM integrations. List what is actually used, service by service, before comparing. That is where the gaps sit, more than in the calling features themselves.

## What the vendor's size changes when you are ten people

Buying from a vendor of 8,000 people that claims 600,000 customers is neither good nor bad. It buys international coverage, financial standing and service continuity that a small vendor cannot offer. But when your contract covers ten licences, four things change in practice. Here is what they are, and what to check before signing, including if you end up choosing RingCentral.

01

Know who picks up when you call support

- Have the order state the name of the support plan included and the response time attached to each severity level
- Ask which country and which language first-line support is provided from: the public subprocessor list names support centres in Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico and the Philippines
- Ask whether a named contact is provided, and above which contract value it becomes one

The trap.Mistaking support available 24 hours a day for a guaranteed resolution time. Availability tells you when someone picks up, not how quickly the problem is solved.

02

Measure the real weight of your request on the roadmap

- Set your number of licences against the 600,000 customers claimed: that order of magnitude governs product decisions
- Ask through which channel a feature request is logged, who decides on it and how often
- Check whether the developer platform, listed in the plan comparison, lets you handle the need without waiting for the vendor

The trap.Taking an "it is on the roadmap" said in a sales meeting for a commitment. Only a date written into the order is one.

03

Know the price you will be renewed at

- Note the two prices shown on the pricing page: the current price and the crossed-out reference price. On the Standard plan for 2 to 19 users, that is €14.99 against €22.99
- Have the order state the price applying to the first renewal period, and the cap on increases if there is one
- Put the renewal date and the 30-day notice period in your calendar on the day you sign, not six months later

The trap.Signing on the promotional price without having the price of the following periods written down. Renewal is automatic for a term identical to the initial term: once the 30-day notice period has passed, the next term is committed.

04

Put a figure on what flexibility costs

- Compare, on your actual headcount, the annual commitment against open billing: €14.99 against €18.99 per licence on the Standard plan for 2 to 19 users, or 27% more to stay free
- Ask whether the number of licences can be reduced during the term, and on what conditions
- Check your tier: the Essentials plan is not offered above 19 users, and the price per licence only falls at 20, then at 100 users

The trap.Sizing on planned headcount rather than actual headcount. In the event of early termination, the contract provides for payment of the amounts still due until the end of the current term.

Before you sign

The 5 questions to ask when you are a small customer of a large vendor

Asked in writing, they give you an answer you can hold the vendor to and a benchmark you can use with any other supplier.

1. 01 Which support plan is included in my order, and what response time is attached to it by severity level?
2. 02 Which country and which language is my first-line support provided from?
3. 03 What price will apply to the first renewal period, and on what basis is it calculated?
4. 04 Can I reduce my number of licences during the term, and on what conditions?
5. 05 Where will my data and my call recordings be stored, and what mechanism governs transfers outside the European Union?

## What do you actually need?

Three uses, three families of tools. Most bad choices come from confusing the first with the third.

What do you need?

Outbound prospecting in France

French parallel dialler

Skipcall · Flunter

Large teams, US market

Enterprise parallel dialler

Orum · Nooks

Switchboard, inbound, video meetings

Business telephony

RingCentral · Aircall · Ringover

RingCentral belongs to the third family, and holds the widest scope within it. Looking there for a prospecting dialler means asking a switchboard to do a job it was never built for.

## Who each solution is for

RingCentral remains the right choice if

- you want a complete phone system: IVR, transfers, switchboard, inbound calls, video meetings, team messaging
- your organisation is multi-site or international, across some or all of the 46 countries served
- you prefer a listed vendor, with the continuity and financial standing that implies
- your headcount is large: the price per licence falls from 20 users, then from 100

An alternative makes sense if

- your teams do outbound prospecting and dialling time is becoming the limiting factor
- you do not want a contract term that renews automatically
- data hosting in the European Union is a requirement from your legal department
- you are a small team and want to start with a single licence

Key difference

## One plan per person, not one licence for the whole team

In a team of ten, needs are not the same. An SDR placing hundreds of calls a day, an account executive placing a handful and a head of sales who mainly needs a business line have no business being on the same plan. The usual market model still has all ten taking the same licence.

Everyone on their own plan, on one account

An SDR on the Expert plan, an account executive on Starter, a founder on the Business VoIP line. The plan follows the person's usage rather than the team average, and it changes without changing account: the number, the call history and the contacts stay.

Everything in one interface

Many parallel diallers plug into a telephony provider you contract separately: two tools, two invoices, two support desks. Here the line, the dialler, the contacts and the sequences sit in the same tool.

From one licence, with no tier imposed

No minimum of three, six or nine licences to reach the right offering. One invoice for the company, itemised user by user.

Worth checking with RingCentral: whether each team member can sit on a different plan, or whether the licence you choose applies to everyone. [Multi-plan in detail](https://skipcall.io/en/features/multi-plan).

## Frequently asked questions

**What is the best RingCentral alternative in 2026? +**

There is no single answer: the right choice depends on the use. For a complete business phone system, RingCentral still has one of the widest scopes on the market and its direct alternatives are Aircall, Ringover and CloudTalk. For outbound prospecting, the deciding criterion is the dialling mode, which the RingEX range does not cover: the tools to look at are then Nooks and Orum on the US market, Skipcall and Flunter in France.

**Does RingCentral have a dialler for outbound prospecting? +**

The plan comparison published by RingCentral for France lists no outbound dialler, on any plan. The features listed belong to the business phone system: IVR, call recording, supervision, video meetings, team messaging, fax, CRM integrations. A prospecting team that needs to dial several numbers in parallel and drop answering machines automatically therefore has to look at another category of tool.

**How much does RingCentral cost in France? +**

The price depends on the number of users, across four public tiers: 1 user, 2 to 19, 20 to 99, 100 and above. For a team of 2 to 19 people on an annual commitment, the listed prices are €7.99 per licence per month for Essentials, €14.99 for Standard, €19.99 for Premium and €24.99 for Ultimate. Without an annual commitment, those same plans go to €12.99, €18.99, €23.99 and €28.99 respectively. The Essentials plan is not offered above 19 users.

**Does RingCentral require a contract term? +**

The initial term is the one stated on the order. The French terms and conditions provide that, on expiry, recurring services are automatically renewed for successive periods of the same length, unless notice not to renew is given at least 30 days before the renewal date. Billing without an annual commitment is available, at a higher price: €18.99 instead of €14.99 per licence on the Standard plan for a team of 2 to 19 people.

**What is the minimum number of licences at RingCentral? +**

The French terms and conditions set no minimum number of users. The pricing page even publishes a price tier for a single user. The price per licence does fall by tier, however: it drops from 20 users, then from 100. A small contract therefore pays the highest price on the grid.

**How do you cancel a RingCentral subscription? +**

Cancellation follows the conditions of the signed contract, by giving notice not to renew at least 30 days before the end of the current term. In the event of early termination for a reason other than a failure by the vendor, the contract provides for payment of all amounts due plus the amounts still owed for the services until the end of the term. So find your renewal date before you start anything, and keep a written record of your request.

**Where is RingCentral customer data hosted? +**

The privacy notice states that data collected outside the United States, in particular in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, may be transferred to and stored on servers located in the United States, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Transfers outside the European Union are governed by standard contractual clauses. The subprocessor list names Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure for hosting, with regions in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, along with a hosting provider with facilities in France.

**Why is the RingCentral Trustpilot rating so low? +**

The rating is 1.7 out of 5 across 1,977 reviews, with 64% one-star reviews. The recurring themes are about the contractual relationship rather than the calling features: reaching support, the cancellation process, billing, the gap with the sales promise. Trustpilot collects unprompted feedback, often posted at the moment of a dispute, and is therefore not comparable to a software review platform where reviews are solicited from active users. This rating says little about the technical quality of the service and a great deal about how disputes are handled.

**Is there a French alternative to RingCentral? +**

Yes. Ringover offers a similar business telephony scope and is built in France. Aircall is a French company, with a dual headquarters in Paris and New York. For outbound prospecting, Skipcall and Flunter are built in France; Skipcall hosts its data with Scaleway, in France, and offers a four-line parallel dialler that RingEX does not cover.

**Can you keep your numbers when leaving RingCentral? +**

Yes. Numbers can be ported from one operator to another. Ask your current provider for what the port requires and start the process before you cancel, so that the service is never interrupted.

**How long does it take to switch tools? +**

Going live is a matter of hours: import the contacts, connect the CRM, run the first call sequence. It is the 30-day contractual notice period and the number porting lead time that set the real timetable, not the technical part.
