# Simulator: the call back after "send me an email"

"Send me an email" is the most common polite exit from a cold call. The email goes out, nobody reads it, and the real call starts three days later. This one.

## Why the call back is a call of its own

On the first call the prospect did not know you. On the call back they have already said no once, politely. You arrive with a little credit (they vaguely remember an exchange) and a large debt (they never read what they asked you to send, and have no wish to be reminded of it). The whole call hinges on what you do with that debt in the first ten seconds.

Three reflexes blow it up: asking "did you get my email?", which forces them to admit they did not read it; restarting the first call’s pitch, which they had already cut off; apologising for calling back, which tells them they are right not to want to talk to you. The simulator offers you all three.

## How you are scored

The same five criteria as the cold call, 20 points each: the opener (placing the exchange in one sentence, no blame), permission (lifting the guilt and handing back the choice: two minutes or a slot), value (the new element, tied to them), listening (building on what they say instead of reaching for the pitch) and the next step (dated, short, with a deliverable). Two prospects, each with their mood of the moment: a CFO who has forgotten your name, a VP Sales with a train to catch.

## Key takeaways

- Never ask "did you get my email?": the answer is no, and it puts the prospect at fault.
- Place the exchange in one sentence, no blame, then hand back the choice: two minutes or a set slot.
- A call back with nothing new has no reason to exist.
- If the prospect has no time, offer the opposite of a chase: a single date, then silence.

## Who are you calling back?

Three days after the promised email, no reply. Call back without guilt, bring something new, get a real next step.

Five criteria, 20 points each: opener, permission, value, listening, next step.
